In a press release on 1^st July, the Party expressed its deep concern about the current crisis facing the nation. It noted the sad fact that the people who voted for a change have despaired now. The hopes about a better future in terms of good governance, law and order and better standards of living have failed to materialize. The press release expressed concern about the non cooperative and obstructive attitude taken by the opposition controlled parliament. The Party called on all those concerned of the three powers – the government, the judiciary and the parliament – to be more sensible and be loyal to the national interests rather than their narrow and vested interests.

A high level delegation of Adhaalath Party met with the President to discuss about the current crisis facing the nation. The party expressed its concern about the situation facing the nation in which the three powers – the government, the parliament and the judiciary are in a collision course with each other. The party shared the concern of the government that the opposition controlled parliament does not cooperate with the elected government. The officials also made it clear that despite these concerns, Adhaalath Party will not participate in any activity that is not in conformity with the principles of the party.

It was noted that no high level member of Adhaalath Party participated in the demonstrations that were organized in support of the government or against it.

Some members of the cabinet who resigned en mass few days ago participated in a demonstration in front of the Peoples’ Majlis demanding the arrest of some members of the parliament for allegations of corruption. Villa TV reported that Minister of state for Islamic Affairs Sheikh Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed also was among the protesters. This was a false report as Sheikh Shaheem never participated in any of those demonstrations.

Adhaalath Party announced that it will contest in the upcoming Local Council Elections. It was decided by the Consultative Assembly that the party will contest independently in these elections.

Adhaalath members who want a party ticket to contest from various localities are requested to submit the forms by 20^th July. The forms are available from Adhaalath Party head office, as well as offices of various branches in the islands and also can be downloaded from the Dhivehi website of Adhaalath Party.
